  • 1 chicken bone or smoked turkey leg
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 1 1/2 tbsp mustard
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 bay leaf

Instructions

  1. Rinse and soak navy beans overnight in cold water.
  2. Drain beans and return them to a large pot with fresh water, diced onions, and the chicken bone.
  3. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low heat for about an hour until beans are tender.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, vinegar, and spices until well combined.
  5. Remove the chicken bone from the bean pot. Stir in the sauce mixture.
  6. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C). Transfer everything to an oven-safe dish and cover tightly.
  7. Bake for about two hours, stirring occasionally before serving.
